about

Strange how many decades have passed since these lines were received and yet still they ring true. Is it all pointless, or just empty of significance while filled with energy?

lyrics

This street is lined with nothing but the dirt of dead routines
Corporate image torn uniform neverending office scenes
The empty mailbox of hungry hope for the homeless and the poor
Waits forever a curbside like a junkie waits to score

* And that is / that is not what I / really meant to say

The sunlight I remember from the summer trees of then
Will not put me back to sleep or wake me up again
As I fall away to windows from the business here at hand
I can see a state of mind that we call the promise land

* And that is / that is not what I / really meant to say

I’m an animal for sleeping while my country is at war
My number has been called up but all I do is snore
As the tv is my witness my head falls from disgrace
But no one gets an explanation when they try to read my face

* And that is / that is not what I / really meant to say

I wrote the chords but truly think that riff came from some dude that I used to jam with in Houston.
